Floor Board Area Calculator
This tool helps you calculate how many floor boards you need to cover your space — whether it’s a room, deck, or multiple areas. It’s simple, fast, and accurate.
How the Calculator Works
You enter the size of your floor board (in metres or feet), then input the dimensions of each area you want to cover. The tool calculates how many boards are needed based on the total area, including extra for waste from cutting or mistakes.
It also supports multiple areas — like a living room and a balcony — so you can add several spaces in one go.
Inputs You Need
- Board Dimensions
Enter length and width of your floor board.
For example: 1.2m long × 0.15m wide.
Make sure both are positive numbers — no zero or negative values. - Surfaces to Cover
Add one or more areas, each with a length and width.
You can add as many as you like — just click “Add Another Area” to create new input fields. - Waste Percentage
Enter how much extra you want to allow for broken boards, cuts, or errors.
Common values: 10% is standard (you may need up to 20% if your layout is complex).
How It Works
- You choose either metric (metres) or imperial (feet), but only one unit system at a time — no mixing.
- The calculator multiplies the board size (length × width) to find how much area one board covers.
- Then it divides each surface’s total area by the board area, rounding up to account for partial boards.
- It adds them all together and includes your waste percentage in the final count.
For example: if you need 100 boards but add 10% waste, you’ll get around 110 boards needed — even if only a few are extra.
What You Get
- Total area covered (in m² or ft²).
- The number of base boards required without waste.
- Final number including waste (rounded up).
All results appear instantly as you type, so no need to wait. If there’s an error (like invalid input), it shows clearly.
Why This Tool Is Useful
Whether you’re planning to build a floor, renovate a room, or lay tiles, knowing the right number of boards saves time and money. You won’t buy too few (and end up waiting) or too many (which means wasted cash).
This calculator gives quick estimates for any project — from small rooms to large decks.
Note on Units
- The tool only works in metres or feet, not centimetres or inches.
- You cannot use centimetres or inches directly — but you can enter values like 10cm (which equals 0.1m) or 1 inch (0.083ft).
- All inputs must be in the same unit system: either metric or imperial, not mixed.
For example:
- A board that is 25cm long becomes 0.25m.
- An area of 12 inches by 18 inches becomes 1 foot by 1.5 feet (i.e., 1.5 ft²).
Final Word
This calculator is ideal for DIYers, builders, or anyone needing quick estimates. It works on any device with internet access — no downloads required.
